"It seems these days there is something about almost everything that should be criticized boldly in the face of widespread denial." - James G. Mason.
Father James on a Moralistic Bender
The following is a moralistic jump into the air, waving my hands about to get your attention on an issue I find relevant to all of us. This style of opinion is a common theme for an editorialist. It is a form of an outlet of frustration and one of the least admitted reasons many editorialists write.If you read the same writer's opinionsregularly I think you'll find this generalization a truism. So here I jump!
~~~~~~~
We are a country that will proliferatevast amounts of news articles about a Hollywood star's latest inappropriate behavior as entertainment news and let it pass as such. We simultaneously present our politician's public mistakes also as entertainment and we largely react by pretending we don't ever act like that and then we let the absurd sound bites pass as careless mistakes to be forgotten quickly. We let those celebrities incidents and political brain-farts become old news fast without dissecting the moral within the story and then not explaining to our kids why that inappropriate behavior was news to begin with. Worse, we tend to not seek consequences for many actions we see, we let them pass without a moral to the story.
It's not that moral escapes us, it's uncomfortable to us to explore behavior we all know most of us are capable of and many of us have done ourselves. And when a thing is vastly entertaining we adapt to immorality within those forms of entertainment. So before we know it, the previously immoral is normal behavior.
We are the nation that just allowed a multi-billion dollar national sport to step two rungs down the ladder of morality because we loved it so much and the Super Bowl was coming. "Well it's a mystery to me," we said collectively.Then we watched the game in record numbers and we emptied our wallets and drove up our credit card bills for that entertainment, despite. In denial we evaded a moral moment to have a great discussion.
Before that most recent sporting news we allowed college students to play a football play-off game in the context of a multi billion dollar producing entertainment medium several days after numerous horrific indictments of that team's coach and mentor's very disgusting and very immoral actions against children were loudly proclaimed to us. Some students wore special colored t-shirts for that televised game to show they cared - so that was okay to our comfort seeking minds.
These publicly personal mistake stories and each of these recent events, that were truly entertainmentweresurrounded by days and weeks of time of missed opportunities to face our morality in the wind of a public storm of denial. Opportunities to present consequences.
It would have been very uncomfortable to actually take action to demonstrate consequences for immorality or even to revisit and prolong our discomfort to learn and to teach our young.
Now I'll pretend that we did the right thing for each of those occurrences above. Because I also love to write fiction especially when it has an important moral to the story.
Celebrity news: Beginning with using celebrities personal mistakes as way of then explaining to our kids;"Kids, sometimes adults show us who they really are inside. They get drunk or they get emotional for other reasons and then say and do things that your and I should never do or say. So, when you hear about a star doing something like that it's because we need to learn a lesson from those public mistakes. The lesson is usually keep your ugly thoughts to yourselves and protect your dignity and the perception that every one else has of you."
The Penn State coach child molestations: "You see kids stopping that game from being played that week was very important because we must see big consequences for big wrong things that people do. Sometimes those consequences need to be shown to every one all at once in a big way. Especially when something really bad happens to children. So that's why that play-off game never happened and that's why the Penn State football program was shut down for a year."
The mysteriously under inflated footballs: We may have had to explain to our boys who also love the sport of football that "We had to cancel that Super Bowl because adults can be great cheaters too and it's very wrong. And we needed to share the consequences of that with the whole world. So that maybe, you and your friends wouldn't grow-up to be a person like that. A person who seeks sneaky advantages when they think no one will find out."
Let's be brave when the next opportunity to explore our morality occurs. Lets be brave mentors to the future, our kids, our young adults and especially to the grown-ups by facing that uncomfortable wind in our faces. Let's recognize when we enjoy a thing, we'll compulsively try to bury the immorality that may occur within that thing.
BBC News: "At least 12 people have been shot dead in Paris - 2 of them police officers - after masked men stormed the offices of a French magazine. 10 others have been wounded - several critically - at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical weekly which has printed cartoons deriding the prophet mohammed. Gunmen burst into the magazine's offices in the centre of Paris."
"JE SUIS CHARLIE."
My sympathy is strong for the deaths of the humorists and editorialists in Paris, France, last week. My emotion is also strong as I share a major commonality with the murdered in this horrific event. It is an offense to my normally good-feeling empathy. Empathy because it is the expression of opinion we shared, and mutually loved. So, to a lesser degree than their survivors, I feel the loss and the veritable stabbing of the heart as I can only imagine the reality. Living in America as I do, the stabbing is dull for me, detached.
I'll save my many quarrels with religion in general and Islam in specific for a better article. This essay is opinion about the offense to the world's freedom to communicate.
My empathy is greatly offended by this attack because many of us practice free expression also. Many of us also satirizing the culture around us. Some were not expecting to have to have pay with their lives, or by any physical harm. But the passions of individuals can not be policed. Because when distributing our opinions, it can not be known when and how to what degree others will react to our expressions. We who publish edgy opinion, humor and such, walk a tight-rope submerged just below the water level of our heads. We bob up out of the water as we breathe the freedom of each publication, hoping not to get shot at in these periodically occurring times. In the U.S., we have become accustomed to offending others with our speech and not expectant of retribution, for the most part.
Guess what most of America? It is not the American Constitution that protects Americans' speech. That document only informs the government that IT may never infringe on our speech and in particular our religious and political published speech. It is just us that protects our free speech. It is a community standard that is all. Apparently, among radical Islamist, the community standard in westernized nations is frustrating to a strong degree as its' standard is far below their own religiously inspired morality, and they can stand it no longer.
Writers, cartoonists, and all those expressing opinion should acknowledge and keep a couple of important concepts in mind: That first, knowledge of our fragile cultural condition and the nuts that lay within must be realistically understood. Secondly we combine this understanding with a very careful measure of the risk in each instance of publishing. Because there is now more than ever, to allow us to function safely in this modern day as artists and opinion communicators, reason to be worried.
Free speech warrior credentials earned: Myself, the author (left) at Radio Free Monterey, circa 1999, It was a Low Power FM radio, community, and worldwide FM radio and internet "netcasting" station. Built from scratch, owned
and operated by myself, mentioned in Who's Who in the United States, 1999, for community radio advocacy. The station was progressive and activist and advocating for FM radio freedom from corporate take-over in the United States.
Successful, an LPFM license can now be legally obtained by economically small stations, as RFM was.
January, 2015:
Thanks a lot "Americans." Read the damn First Amendment. Then think about it.
NEW: 5/17/2015 9:20 am -5 gmt: Apparently an incredible thing has happened over there:
A lesson learned. Mockumentary to finish work:
:-) Enjoy Earth. Don't fuck it up. Please. This was
not a lot of work. But, there will only be 1 chance to keep this communication line open. - James G. Mason end edit 9:30 am -5
NEWER" 5/18/2015 7:10 pm -5 This paradox comes down in 24 hours unless the United States Government stops their silly covert operations and begins to communicate with me. Covert operations and hiring psychoanalysts to stalk me and your lack of courage and inability to communicate has resulted in this decision. This lack of courage and transparency and fear is a strong indication to me that humans do not deserve this. I would have been glad to explain all of my understanding of everything openly. This does NOT belong to the United States. This line of communication will be permanently closed as of 5:00 am e.s.t. Tuesday morning on May 19th, 2015. A day of regret that may not be recognized and that is fine with me. Update:7:10 pm TONIGHT 5/18/2015: goodbye :-( ahhhhh too bad. Ignorance. Fear. inability to communicate transparently. . . . on and on. .. . sneaky. . .. arrogant . . . . . 7:11 pm : ahhh. Look who you disappointed:
Addendum 2/2/2015 6:26 pm -5 GMT: Many things are occurring at the website TimeTravelWish.com since writing the article below. 1:57 UTC -5 3/5/2015: An image seemingly innocently and mistakenly placed on Google servers right where and when the webmaster would find it, predictably. But he kept the temporary dark and lonely looking picture meant for a travel agency in the free template that he had always used on his other websites, predictably. Then he returned to edit several weeks later. But what is that? There is clearly a heavily shielded radio transmission process occurring in the picture. The whole composition of the image appears to be totally arranged. The image is explaining where the building is located and the webmaster is getting closer to its location. The building, containing what is likely an apartment is of 19th century architecture, with no utilities but a furnace below using a hot air common shaft. He realizes it likely exists in a very cold place.The whole image is so compressed it is less than 100 kilobytes. A portrait from a gallery where the webmaster had been as a boy appears to have been scratched into the wall - a simple psychological personification? Another psychological personification is looking like a portrait of a weary soldier on horseback. He passively continues to search for a match - just in case.
The webmaster chooses boldly to begin almost immediately in his edits to refer to "the team" in congratulatory paragraphs (to better ensure the paradox is confirmed) and he makes sure he manually time stamps all new edits. So the pages grow and don't get smaller as time proceeds.
The webmaster has pieced together with photographic evidence for everyone to examine of vegetation displacement in his local environment. He is documenting trees having moved significantly in his locality - in his recent past. He's found another image from what is likely another vegetation displacement and he is waiting for the snow to melt to photograph the entire area and validate again with another set of images this bizarre locality displacement of trees. These are trees that he had a relationship with (memory of and pictures of) from either camping or hiking near his home.
Or is it really just more significant evidence we are now in a new timeline? A breach in time created by a very predictable and public website protected by a company too foolish not to protect it, just in case. A site filled with predictable factors well recorded and maintained by a company too big and smart to fail. A mega server company that has created safety redundancies that allowed this weblog to still exist - so "the team" could validate their discovery.
Electrons in pattern from the future? Is quantum entanglement being used to open a timeline of communication? But wait. Images, first one with a date from 53 years into the future found on the computer with an automatic operating system time stamp - that he's too technologically ignorant to explain or have manipulated if he wanted to. He is perplexed. Then a week or so later he finds 3 more time stamped by the operating system, again from the same day in April of 2068 all at different times. He posts in technology forums with thousands of online members. The answers don't pan out. Is a timeline of communication now open?
This webmaster may be in over his head. He gets sick one day and seemingly overnight he experiences the odd inability to firmly chose whether to turn right or left or take a simple highway exit - a strongly conflicted disorientation, He freaks and runs to some hospital to seek their data, where they see nothing wrong, of course. He uses his knowledge of medications that can effect mid brain orientation. He begins take sea sickness pills right away. In five days he no longer feels the strange dilemma of the simple turns of life that we're all sure we're headed for.
Me, this third person voice in your head, James G. Mason. An amateur writer of fiction and science fiction, a retired plumber, an editorialist, and a first-timer internet pioneer whose first computer had 128 kb memory and his first modem was but 300 bauds. A person who loves to create with anything around him who discovered html in 1994 and hated to do anything that was not original. A guy with a long brewing idea for setting up the perfect "landing zone" for early time travel experimenters to hit from the future. A guy who may have finally conceptualized a way and allowed a completed paradox to be in place. He realizes the site may very well have been successful in the time before it was even conceived of. http://TimeTravelWish.com
Not fiction but this guy loves to write so it may seem spooky and kind of beautiful. A concept website. Experimental. He tries truthfully to attack the hypotheses unfolding from the web site. He must examine every inch of his past for any PR's, or paradox related "incidents" to validate or genuinely dismiss what is apparently happening. Watch-out for getting involved in this site even as a click through, because a strong and broad paradox was necessary to open this possibly new timeline. The stability of the "fresh" timeline is unknown. The number of paradoxes that must be protected is unknown. The amount of human opposition to maintaining the timeline is unknown at this relative time.
Consider not going there. - James.
Oh if Albert Einstein could see today our optimism at the possibility of destroying his mathematical theories! I have often wondered about time as I’m sure we all do. We now know that time is not a perception but a real measurable force that changes depending on where you are in the universe and even where you are on Earth, or in Earth’s orbit.
We are exploring the force of time, now, with new understanding. Time is a force to beperceived as different, only by those standing in a different time. An effect of gravity, attracted to mass relative to the density of the mass. For instance, astronomers have witnessed at the center of this spiral galaxy, about 60k light years away, the appearance of dozens to hundreds of stars, rapidly and seemingly chaotically dodging the immense gravitational force of the super-massive black hole at our galaxy’s center that this galaxy is influenced by (image below). In time lapse simulation over several years they appear as moving very fast in motion around the black hole (like annoying small flies around your face, in the deep south). However, those stars exist in a different force of time, more accelerated than ours and so the stars appear as rapidly moving. If we were to join their local space, and be in that time force, we would see their speed as normal to the laws of physics within spacetime, as we know it, here on Earth.
Aa the center of our galaxy a very dense and strong black hole increases the force of time in its proximity. The many stars in this computer simulated time lapse are moving incredible distances with orbits as large as light years appearing to our force of time as moving rapidly. To them looking at us, we would seem a lethargic species.
Another fine example: The GPS satellites, about 40 of them, have on board a separate computer processor that’s only function is to correct the time. Because they are more distant from the density of our planet, time is moving slower for those satellites. The correction is very small and made daily by the separate computers within. So that the GPS signal’s timing can match our time here on Earth.
Another example of the physical force that is time: You can stand with your back against the Great Pyramid (very dense object as one mass). You could look away at the many tourists who are walking around hundreds of feet away, and (if your mind could notice the very small difference) would see them as walking slower than they actually are, in their time, further from the pyramid. Weird huh? No. [There may have been a practical reason for the construction of the pyramids, related to time’s variation.] It's a real physical force, to be explored further. I’m confident that we will be able to calculate time’s differentials throughout space eventually. It will be necessary to do so, in calculating to plan our interstellar journeys in the future. It may be possible to protect our rate of time while in transit, to keep it the same as Earths’ as we depart this local space and approach light speed.
“Fascinating Jim.” As Mr.Spock would say.
But now we look at Time Travel Wish Inc., a entrepreneur’s attempt at, not only proving that time travel will be possible, but allowing people to benefit from it right-away, so to speak.
Images: For Time Travel Wish Inc.'s first attempt, no. 000001: The card to be sent back in time to include an image of the sender at his or her current age. The image message to provide instructions for the sender, or to just say hello, hopefully, attached to the card.
Time Travel Wish Incorporated
OurMission:
It is our hope that time travel technology will use knowledge of the future to benefit many others in the past in ways vital to health and welfare. With this prospect, we seek to provide hope to our clients by allowing them communication from the future. It is our goal that time travel be responsibly regulated and broadly used by the people. That present-day evidence of our life’s events can be used to guide us and to save us and better the health and welfare of everyone. We will store and distribute messages for our clients into their future to be sent to their past by a designated sender. We will pair two people and manage the delivery of their communication for as long as time allows.
In the optimism of science and discovery we wait for our technology to evolve and send matter or energy to and from the past of a timeline or into different timelines.
No longer will civilization take two steps forward, and one step back. Always we can move ahead. When only used for positive intent, communicating with our past will bring a better world, with an advancement toward peace and long and healthy lives. There will be no more surprises to set us backward. Full circle accountability and the full ability to take responsibility for ourselves, through time's passages for communication, will take effect.
The first matter to travel backwards or forwards in time will likely be a single particle or atom. The greatest moment in our history may be the discovery made by sending a single molecule beyond the barrier of known time. We will observe it to have been created in a different time not yet having happened, and we will then know the window can be opened.
However, later a message, perhaps with an image or a video, then bulk data packets filled with details, then an animal and finally a person.
Control over time’s destinations may be poor at first. Early transportation through time may be fraught with errors and learning. Matter and energy may not assemble accurately. Dates and locations of landings may be off wildly or within a wide or narrow range for many attempts. Failures may be frequent at first as targeted recipients may not be in place in time or space to receive a message. A sender may never reach his or her goal due to life’s circumstances, or the absence of the technology, the loss of the message and more unforeseen and likely circumstances.
In an expected to be common scenarios, we foresee practical use for manipulating our futures.
A child sends a message to her dead father pleading to him with crayon on a cardboard sign to immediately quit smoking and drinking and to change his diet and begin to exercise immediately. His date of death ends the message on the sign. These kinds of profound messages will initiate different behavior of the recipients in the timeline or begin other timelines. The world has become a better place for families, for loved ones and all others touched by the continued lives.
The surviving family of a cancer victim sends the formula for the cure.
Not a single death results from a train derailment because over four-hundred people get phoned from the future, warned, and do not board. This kind of “Time-prevention,” will be common.
Warned three minutes earlier from the future, with a small message about who he was and what he was going to do; a suicide bomber is apprehended by a crowd of frightened shoppers and bystanders, at the shopping mall, who would be his victims.
The government of a major city receives an automated warning from a computer at its geological department 72-hours in the future of a major earthquake in occurrence. One minute later another message arrives filled with details, including which buildings would be damaged, who specifically would be killed or hurt or lost, even animal rescue information. Three days are allowed for full evacuation and time-prevention, before citizens watch from afar as their buildings are crumpled in the most viewed earthquake in history that killed no one.
War strategy would eventually be a futile attempt. The dreams of generals and leaders to overpower their opposition will become only that. We will wonder to ourselves, as nations, why we remain separated. We learn from the future that nations will eventually not be any longer. For those in power, in politics, in corporate leadership, in justice, corruption becomes too transparent to conduct, as messages from the future arrive nearly as fast as plans are hatched in the minds of recipients.
Famine and drought can be prepared for. Agriculture, livestock, wildlife and refugees can be pre-managed in time-prevention efforts.
Every transportation through time should have an intent toward benefits in life-saving ways. We can plan journeys through time where speculated benefits will outweigh risks. We can influence destiny. We can influence love and romance and reproduction for better relationships and families. We can even influence our futures in economic ways when appropriate. Our justice system will benefit, by allowing future discoveries of injustice to be communicated to our present day legal system. The details of accidents, technology failures, natural or man-made disasters, violent events, can be communicated from our future and then suffering prevented. Our ecology will benefit as evidence of our mistakes, and the consequences of our actions can be communicated to us in full. We will abandon a timeline of greater misery before time travel’s first communications had occurred.
