Before More Come - the Forgotten Story of the Origin of Stonehenge 13

In the third year the harvest had been weak, nearly causing starvation. Rationing of food was implemented by the Elders and the hardest workers on the toughest projects got the largest food amounts. Weakness prevailed, movement toward the hole slowed to a crawl, and the unity between and within the tribes seemed always ready to collapse. The entire project as it stood on the plains almost ended abruptly due to sheer physical exhaustion and emotional despair.

At the beginning of the sixth year of the project and with more than one quarter of the heavy stones remaining to be quarried, transported and assembled, the daily and nightly fears of the people became realized as a terrifying event occurred which caused abandonment of the project forever. It was fully spring, in the early afternoon, when less than one-hundred workers were at the tomb of the silver bird: Another large silver bird exactly like the first appeared high in the clear sky directly over the project site. It was seen by all the people of each tribe. Shortly afterward the ground at the tomb rumbled horribly. Large cracks appeared and the quaking from under the ground shook everything and tossed and toppled stones. The workers screamed, fell to the ground and dropped their ropes, shovels, hammers and poles. As soon as the quaking stopped they scurried to their feet and ran in the direction of their camps and to their families. Minutes afterward a second quake began that was long and rumbled loud with the roaring scraping sound of rock against metal. Near the perimeter of the then nearly-perfectly circular, earthen henge, a large semi-circular sinkhole opened more than three-meters deep. The second silver bird left the sky several minutes after the last ferocious quake, and was never seen again by the Beaker people. ~~~~~

It was Captain Do Son whose crew was assigned to this local space, whose ship auto-responded when the scheduled communication from one of their vessels on a mission to Earth for exploration was not received.

The moment Captain Son saw the new coordinates, he remembered the planet Sol 3. It had made news on the home world just 70 years earlier, when a scout ship on a mission for the anthropological division, reported new contact on the planet with a large band of primitives. The mission had made level 2 studies for a couple of months. A remarkable point of the story was how the primitives had reacted to several close sightings of the scout ship near them. They had immediately built a mound of earth, and hid a particular many of themselves within it, and stayed hidden there for an indeterminate time, as the mission had returned home, perhaps too soon. It was noted in the report that just after the building of the mound, the large band of them had fled in several directions, and were not seen to have returned to one and other before that brief mission had ended. Captain Son was sure his ship would be responding to an incident involving the primitives who had climbed into that mound in fear of his people.
Their rescue journey to Earth mostly in cryosleep, had taken over five years. When the Captain and his crew arrived high above Stonehenge, he knew this was not the location of that past encounter, and he and the crew viewed the ship below them and its dead crew on their instruments. They could see clearly that the human workers were greatly engaged in burying their comrades and hiding a tragedy, or worse a crime. That the primitives had killed the crew was clear to the captain. Their reaction was shock. Son’s second in command had known the ship’s engineer, and his family, and was enraged. Among the crew there was talk of hunting down humans on the surface. But we are perhaps very lucky today that Captain Son restrained himself with great maturity during these moments and committed no retribution on the helpless hordes of primitives below his ship, even as he and his crew felt a fast-growing hatred for them. The captain made two attempts with his ship’s electromagnetic tractor beam at retrieving the vessel from underneath the henge. The second attempt severely damaged the buried vessel and nearly ripped apart Son's ship in the effort. The weight was too much, the task was beyond their technology, their comrades would have to be left there under the dirt, light years from their homes and families, until a later time.

The captain and his crew watched on their monitors as the Neolithic primitives frantically ran for their lives away from the tomb of their comrades. Captain Son decided to install a radio beacon and leave, and he hoped he would never return. In the message Do Son did not express anger, although he and his crew were enraged. He wanted a short and succinct message with emotional power to be taken very seriously. He installed a binary message remotely to be broadcast from within the damaged ship in the languages of nine known species of that ancient time.
~~~~~~ The day of the second ship’s arrival, all three tribes evacuated in a panic. In their frenzy they left behind many objects on the grass and dirt - like pottery, hand tools and children's toys. By sunset the people of every tribe were headed north and north-east and south-west, as far away as they felt safe from the scene of their crime.
"In the Sun's long shadow of the "Yavos' Stones" his remains were buried at an arm’s length in the ground in the hope and belief that the strength and bravery of Yavo's spirit would help to contain the silver bird forever."
